Most college students think that graduating with honors is a high milestone. But how does that compare with making an electric car that can go over 300 mph?
A team of students from the Ohio State University did just that as their all-electric "Buckeye Bullet" set a world speed record for a battery operated vehicle. The vehicle is based on the team's previous design and was built in conjunction with Venturi and A123 Systems, the makers of the battery for the Chevy Volt.
Though the previous "Buckeye Bullet" was powered by electrons sourced from a fuel cell, the 2010 version gets all its energy from lithium-ion cells. Earlier this week the team was able to achieve a 297 mph top speed, this afternoon the team broke that record by hitting 320 mph.
Word on the flats is that the team is still trying to break that record as well. To follow the team's progress and too look at the team's stunning pictures visit the Buckeye Bullet Blog.
theCD's take: These guys are just 74 mph short of breaking World Land Speed Record at the Bonneville Salt Flats! This is insane.
