The NHTSA and GM are recalling over 50,000 vehicles in the states of Arizona, Nevada, Texas, California and Florida for an issue with the fuel system. The affected vehicles are the 2006-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, 2007 Pontiac G5, and 2006-2007 Saturn Ion.
The plastic supply or return port on the "modular reservoir assembly" may crack. If either of the ports develop a crack, fuel will obviously leak. As the crack gets larger, fuel will start dripping at a pretty good rate, which could cause a fire in the presence of an ignition source.
Dealers will replace the fuel pump module free of charge. A slew of other states are being included as "special coverage" so be sure to check out the link below and see if yours is on there.
You can contact Chevrolet (1-800-630-2438), Saturn (1-800-972-8876) or Pontiac (1-800-620-7668) for more info.
