After much hype over new cars like the Ford Fiesta and the Mazda 2, one new subcompact entry may have gone unnoticed. The new Mitsubishi Colt is headed stateside for 2010 and this time it won’t be disguised as a Chrysler. The car comes in either 3 or 5 door form with engine choices aplenty. The US-spec Colt will most likely sport more powerful drivetrain than those already overseas and a CVT will be taking care of getting the power to the wheels.
The styling is similar to that of a scaled-down Lancer, complete with angry headlights. It is nice to see the quality of entry level automobiles increase as the segment grows and the new Colt is no exception. The promise of a sporty Ralliart model is intriguing to say the least. This concept may not be far off as it already exists in the foreign market; some models endowed with excess of 150 horsepower. Mitsubishi is shipping off some clever competition for the established subcompact market that already exists here. It will be interesting to see how the Colt is welcomed.
