Ford's very popular bloat-mobile, the Edge, is due for a facelift. Seen here wearing a jumping jellybean suit as camouflage, the 2011 Ford Edge has undergone a major transformation upfront. Receiving a slightly different interpretation of Ford's three-bar grille, it also gets new "eyes" in the form of large projector headlamps.
Looking closer at the front of the vehicle, we see a chrome eyebrow, née unibrow, above the headlights that made its design debut on the 2010 Ford Fusion. Though obviously a prototype, it appears that the 2011 Ford Edge is almost showroom ready, minus the few gap issues between the headlights and front bumper.
We also see some new styling when it comes to the fog lights on the front bumper. Ford has ditched the typical round fog lights in favor of a more rectangular and vertical design. The fog lights also seem to use lighting technology similar to the "DNA lights" of the 2010 Volvo XC60 crossover.
Out back, Ford has remixed the design by adding some chrome around the taillights. Major upgrades are expected for the interior as well, since the current model has a somewhat contemporary feel but strays towards vanilla in the styling department.
The 2011 Edge is expected to receive Ford's newly announced 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, but we speculate that Ford could put the 3.5-liter V6 Eco-Boost engine from the Taurus for a special Sport or SHO trim level.
We expect to see the facelifted Edge at the 2010 North American International Auto Show, next month.
