MINI's highly anticipated new crossover is keeping the Countryman badge, as well as the all-wheel-drive layout promised.
The 1.6-liter engine will likely be standard for the base version, with a supercharger adding some oomph in the Cooper S. It will be interesting to see if MINI ups the horsepower on the Countryman given the drain of an all-wheel-drive system and unavoidable weight gain
A new front grille, bumper, and headlights give the new MINI an angry face, and the increase ground clearance and plastic wheel flares imply rugged crossover. Despite the differences, its proportions are very similar to today's MINI. Thanks to its proportions as well as subtle MINI styling cues, the Countryman keeps that classic British sporting look.
The interior is also in line with the MINI of today, with a bank of toggle switches, huge center-aligned speedometer, and an overall retro ambiance. Teal door inlays are shocking at first, but the added color breaks up the overwhelmingly grayscale interior.
