Global Electric Motors (GEM) and the NHTSA are recalling 142 neighborhood electric vehicles because the parking brake cable may have been improperly crimped. This could cause the parking brake cable to separate from the actuator handle while being applied.
All 2009 GEM vehicles are affected. That includes the e2, e4, e6, eL, eL XD, and the eS. GEM says the vehicles could roll away on a hill creating a risk of crash or injury.
GEM dealers will replace the parking brake lever assembly, and owners can contact GEM at (1-866-764-0616) for more information.
theCD's take: These are all over college campuses, so if you see one, don't go near it!
