Tata, the auto manufacturer known for putting India on wheels, has recently revealed its electric Nano EV concept at the 80th Geneva Auto Show.
The Nano EV follows Tata's promise to begin providing cheap electric alternatives to petroleum burning vehicles. The car utilizes advanced lithium-ion batteries to power its electric motor. Tata predicts a range of around 80 miles and a 0-30mph acceleration time in the sub 10 second range for the electrified micro-sedan.
Over 100,000 regular Nanos have already sold in India and plans for a European version are well on their way following last year's Nano Europa concept. Tata maintains that it plans to eventually sell the car in the US, but stringent federal emissions and safety standards will hold that off for at least a few more years. The Nano EV concept will likely be put into production, though for now there is no word on when.
theCD's take: Tata already makes the world's cheapest car, but could the Nano EV possibly become the world's cheapest electric car?
